One of the most experienced tuba players in the banding world will hang up his mouthpiece at the National Finals next month.
30 years
John Prosser of the newly crowned British Open champion, Cory, will make his final contesting appearance with the band he has played with since 1981.
During his time with the band he has helped them win countless titles and award, including four National, five British Open and three European Championships.
Privilege
John told 4BR: "It’s been a privilege playing for what I consider to be the best band in the world, and I’m sure my successor will experience the same enjoyment and success that I have had."
MD, Bob Childs revealed that he managed to stave off John’s retirement for the past two years!
"John asked to retire about two years ago, but he is such a fine player and such a valuable member that I managed to help him put off the decision until now. He will be a great loss, but I hope we are able to ensure he can bow out on a National high at London next month."
John has been a real stalwart of the band. I don’t think he’s ever missed a rehearsal or concert. He is a great bandsman and will be sadly missed. He has been a model of excellence in every possible wayAustin Davies
Great bandsman
Band Chairman, Austin Davies added: "John has been a real stalwart of the band. I don’t think he’s ever missed a rehearsal or concert. He is a great bandsman and will be sadly missed. He has been a model of excellence in every possible way."
John will be replaced by Bb Bass player, Nick Wills, from Tongwynlais Temperance, who has already played with Cory when they recently toured Holland.
