Top tubas take delight in new Yamaha Neo BBb bass.

Two of the banding world’s finest tuba stars recently came to The Music Cellar to try out and compare the new Yamaha Neo BBb Tubas.

Morley and Cattanach

Former Foden’s and Grimethorpe star Dean Morley, who now plays with Brisbane Excelsior in Australia, was in the country for the British Open and was interested in trying the new Neo BBb Bass – and he brought along with him the highly experienced Andy Cattanach.

Thorough test

As you would expect from such great players, the Neo was given a thorough trial, with both players swapping their tubas to ensure they were tested to the limit.

Meanwhile, Andy added: "It was great to play along with someone of Dean's calibre. Within a few minutes, tuning and balance issues were easily sorted.

On swapping instruments it was apparent that there was no audible or physical difference at all between the two, taking away the worry of "getting a good one" that most bass players have had to live with previously. The consistency in tuning throughout the range was a revelation to us both."

Fantastic to hear

Yamaha’s Regional Manager Charlie Robertson added: "It's fantastic to hear the new tuba being tested by two such highly regarded players. This Neo is the culmination of many years of development and testing to ensure we have the perfect tuba to enhance the British brass band sound. The list of high profile players now on the Neo is getting longer and longer by the day."
