Flowers Composition Competition

Butlins champs put up the cash to find new music

The Butlins champion, Flowers has announced its own Composition Competition, which aims to find the band new music to perform at entertainment competitions during 2012 — including in the defence of their Skegness title.

Entries:

Entries can be made by email to bandmanager@flowersband.co.uk in the form of PDFs and an mp3 file, or as a Sibelius file. A covering letter should also be included.

Alternatively, entries can be sent by post.

Entries must comprise of:
1. Three copies of the score and parts
2. A covering letter and the composers contact details.
3. The scores must be bound and legible.

All submissions must be received by 31st October and will be judged by Professor Philip Wilby, Musical Director Paul Holland & Band Manager Lee Downie.

Each composition should be between 3 and 7 minutes in duration and be suitable for a Championship Section band in difficulty.

Looking for

The band is ideally looking for original works although arrangements will be considered but will be at the discretion of the judges.

The piece should not have been performed before or associated with another band with an exclusive arrangement.

There are no restrictions on composer's age or nationality.

Prizes:

The winner will receive £750, whilst the work will be published by a well known publisher and will be performed by Flowers during 2012.

Second prize is £500, whilst third prize is £250

Junior Prize:

There is a special £100 junior prize for any compositions submitted by anyone under the age of 16.

If the winner of the entire competition is under the age of 16 then they will receive both the overall first prize as well as the junior prize.

Olney Brass
