2011 marks the 30th anniversary of Ian Clague’s appointment as Musical Director of the Manx National Youth Band.
Three decades and more
For over three decades Ian has inspired and educated hundreds of children and adults with his passion and enthusiasm for music whilst his dedication to the organisation has never wavered.
As well as all the rehearsals and concerts, Ian has spent many hours giving players individual tuition.
Very proud
A spokesperson told 4BR: "During the last three decades Ian is very proud to have seen many of his students compete in the Young Musician of Mann and five go on to win the prestigious title.
His coaching has led to many music exam successes for his students and numerous prize-winning performances in the Manx Music Festival."
Passion
Ian’s success in instilling a passion for music in others also saw the formation in 1995 of Manx Concert Brass.
The band was primarily formed to carry on brass band music making after the player’s involvement in the Manx National Youth Ban ended, and has gone on to be a wonderfully successful organisation.

Huge debt
The spokesperson added: "Ian’s priority has always been the Manx Youth Band and it is as a teacher and band trainer that he has excelled. Despite the continuous changing of young personnel Ian’s hard work goes into teaching generation after generation of players."
They concluded: "The organisation and all the players involved over the years owe Ian a huge debt of gratitude."
