Farr inspired in Sweden

Cory horn star inspires brass and wind in Sweden.

Cory tenor horn star Owen Farr recently spent a week as a guest at the Brass and Wind Band Summer School in Jonkoping, Sweden.

International guests

The course, which has been run for almost forty years has been fortunate in obtaining the experience of many international guests over the years, such as Bram Gay, Edward Gregson, Major Peter Parkes, Richard Evans, Ray Farr and the whole Steve Sykes family just to mention a few.

Relaxed

Organiser Berit Palmquist told 4BR: "Owen contributed tremendously with all his musicianship during the week. He gave wonderfully relaxed seminars and master classes, but he also conducted a brass band and a wind band, and of course wowed everyone with his amazing playing."

Music played on the course included varied from traditional William Rimmer marches to extended works by Gareth Wood and Eric Ball, solos and ensemble pieces.

Finale

As a concert finale Owen directed the joint bands who had been led by Torgny Hansson, Mattias Hjortlinger and Johan Henningson in a performance of the Rimmer classic, ‘The Cossack’.
