It was not just the weather that was red hot in Staveley near Chesterfield recently, as last weekend, Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band held the fifth running of their popular ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition.
Difficult decision
12 bands performed through out the day, with adjudicator Derek Renshaw later confessing to finding it very difficult to separate the top three contenders.
In the end, it was the Dronfield Band conducted by John Davis that came out on top, with a two point wining margin over rivals Ripon City, with Rolls Royce Derby in third.
With Staveley Town Council continuing to offer their support next year’s event will take place over the weekend of June 22nd/23rd
