The Eastern Iowa Brass Band announces the appointment of new music director Kate Wohlman. Kate will begin rehearsing the band in August and will make her conducting debut with the band at the September 17th Fall Subscription Concert.
Kate is currently working toward her DMA in Tuba Performance at the University of Iowa. At the university, she is a brass area teaching assistant, conductor of the Collegium Tubum (tuba/euphonium ensemble), and assistant to Professor of Tuba John Manning. Kate earned her MM in Tuba Performance and MA in Music Theory from Penn State University. She is very excited to take the conducting position and looks forward to bringing her numerous experiences into the role.
EIBB President Bob Upmeyer says, “I know I speak for the entire Eastern Iowa Brass Band and our supporters that we are excited that Kate accepted our invitation. Kate was the first person I approached regarding the director’s position. Her musicianship, brass band experience, and knowledge of brass band literature are evident. As a native of the UK she will be adding a nice British touch to our British Brass Band in heartland of the US.”
