Radio: Time for Brass
Life, like music, is made up of light and shade and that has certainly been the case over the past week or so.
Linda and I were guests of Dronfield Band for their 40th anniversary concert and dinner and it was nice to make new acquaintances and renew old friendships.
The band is going great guns under John Davis's leadership and are enjoying considerable contest success as well as being a very entertaining concert band.
I also joined a large congregation among who were many well-known personalities from the brass band world to say our farewells to Goff Richards.
Stockton Heath Parish Church was very well filled and the service, which contained three of the most moving tributes I have ever heard at a funeral, was made very memorable by the band which was augmented by a number of well-known recruits and the very fine contribution of the male voice choir.
It goes without saying that the music was entirely by Goff himself and some of it at least is included in this week's programme.
