Smithills School Senior Brass Band under MD Chris Wormald have been presented with a top award at the National Festival of Music For Youth for a fourth consecutive year.

The event held at Symphony Hall in Birmingham also saw awards presented to Wardle High School directed by Lee Rigg and highly praised performances from Egglescliffe School under Matthew Haworth) and Fred Longworth School directed by Helen Robinson.
Pacesetters
Playing a brand new arrangement of John Williams music, Smithills gave a performance which Keith Hewson and Eric Tebbett described as ‘a masterclass’, with the further observation that the band continues to be what they called, ‘...the pacesetters for all school brass bands in the country’.
