The 2011 East Coast of Australia Band Championships were held at Newcastle City Hall on Sunday 12th June.

A win for St Marys

St Marys Band Club Brass, conducted by Ben Crocker were awarded the A grade championship after winning the Hymn and Test sections by a margin of 3 points from Waratah Brass Newcastle (Steven English), with performances Adjudicator Ross Griffiths described as 'absolutely scorching'.

The championships are run by way of an own choice test piece and sacred item, with St Marys opting for The Joy of Loving Hearts (Downie) & Paganini Variations (Wilby), with Waratah performing Meditation — Sacrament (Downie) & Elgar Variations (Ellerby).

Newcastle PCYC easy victors

In the B division, a clearly delighted Newcastle PCYC Band (Teena Wallace) were easy victors over CNL Brass (Ron Boaden) and Brisbane Water Brass (Jonathan Gatt).

The afternoon "Festival of the Bands" entertainment competition saw Waratah Brass awarded 1st prize in the A division, with CNL taking out the B section.
