In a move that many people feel may be replicated the length and breadth of the country, 4BR has been informed of the dissolution of North West Counties Brass Band Association.
Robust and well run
Regarded for many years as one of the most robust and well run banding associations, the decision was taken following their Annual General Meeting where only two member bands sent representatives.
A further emergency meeting was held on May 11th, where despite 11 bands attending, the decision was taken by 11 votes to 2 that the association be dissolved with immediate effect.
It became abundantly clear that no one was prepared to assist in keeping the Association as a viable concernDerek Aktinson
No assistance
Executive member Derek Atkinson told 4BR: "It became abundantly clear that no one was prepared to assist in keeping the Association as a viable concern so after a vote the Association was sadly dissolved."
Contests
Although the Association itself was dissolved, the organisations separate Lancashire Contests arm will still continue to run contests, although it has been stressed that these would now have to be undertaken on a strictly commercial basis to pay their way without subsidy
Derek added: "The Executive wish to thank you all for your support over the years and look forward to seeing you all in the future."
