Full line up for Pershore Midsummer Brass

There is a full days entertainment in store for visitors to Pershore's Midsummer Brass.

A small, pretty market town in the heart of the Midlands rural countryside might seem an unlikely place to host one of the country’s biggest non-competitive brass band events, but Pershore, tucked away between the Vale of Evesham and the M5 near Worcester, is just such a spot!

Return

The return of Midsummer Brass in 2010 proved to be a resounding success, and the 2011 event, which is set to take place on July 9th looks set to be even bigger, with well over 30 bands booked to take part.

The event stretches over 12 hours, starting at ten in the morning with an opening fanfare played from the top of the Abbey. A special appearance by the band from Pershore’s Twin Town in Germany, Bad Neustadt, is expected to be a highlight of the day.

All levels

This event is organised by local band supporters and enthusiasts, and care is taken to ensure that all levels of banding are represented – from youth to championship level.

Big society

Spokesman Adrian White told 4BR: "The Prime Minister speaks often of ‘localism’ and the ‘big society’.. in the brass band world we’ve being doing all that for years!"

The Midsummer Brass event takes place at four main venues in Pershore, each one having a different flavour and ambience which is reflected in the musical performances.

Abbey venue

Performances at the magnificent Abbey, with its lofty arches and mediaeval architecture, invites majestic virtuosity, while the marquee, at the back of the Angel Inn and next to the River Avon is the venue for popular and light hearted music which listeners can enjoy with a pint in their hands!

Youth encouragement

Youth bands too are given encouragement by having the chance to perform publicly at one of the outside venues, Chapman Court, a popular spot situated in the local shopping area.

Finally, the new bandstand, which was opened in 2010, will be put to good use throughout the day for smaller ensembles.

There’s something for everyone at this unique musical event — it’s not to be missed!
