4BR has been informed of the death of Gordon R Tune BEM from Montgomeryshire, who passed away after a short illness on April 16th aged 81.

His funeral at in Shrewsbury on Thursday May 5th was well represented by many past members of the North Powys Youth Band, formerly the Montgomeryshire County Youth Band as well as many who had travelled long distances from London, Kent, York, and Manchester as well as all over Wales to be present.
Peter Parkes
Gordon joined the Army as a boy bandsman at 15 going on to serve in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry Band under the direction of a young Peter Parkes.
He rose through the ranks eventually becoming Warrant Officer Class 2, Band Sergeant Major and Bugle Major of the Band. He received the BEM whilst serving in Germany for services to army music.
Gordon was a highly respected and charismatic tutor and leader of the youth band and the number of past members who attended his funeral was testimony to the high regard in which he was held4BR
Head of Brass
He left the army in 1969 and in 1970 he joined the Montgomeryshire County Music Service as a peripatetic brass tutor. Gordon was later appointed Head of Brass and Conductor of the North Powys Youth Band leading the band on its first tour of Canada.

Avid golf fan
He was an avid golf fanatic and upon his retirement from the music scene in North Powys he spent much of his retirement on local golf courses.
Gordon leaves his second wife Ceri, and two sons from his first marriage, one son having predeceased him several years ago.
