The death has been announced of Alan Fox, the former Chairman and General Secretary of Tredegar Band.
He was 75, and had battled long against the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. He leaves a wife, Megan and three sons, Hywel, Iwan and Geraint.
Respected
A highly respected lecturer, local Labour Party politician, and early member of both CND and the Anti Apartheid movement in Wales, he was instrumental from the mid 1970s onwards in providing Tredegar with an organisational foundation that freed them to concentrate on musical success under a succession of leading conductors.
Sad loss
Band Secretary Alwyn Powell told 4BR: "It’s a very sad loss to an organisation he held close to his heart as a fine administrator and as a proud father of three sons who all played with the band."
