Leyland Band has acted quickly to fill the conducting void caused by the recent departure of Philip Harper, with the news revealed exclusively to 4BR, that Jason Katsikaris has agreed to lead the band at the British Open in September.
Charismatic
The appointment sees the return of the charismatic Australian to the band he led to Grand Shield victory in 2008, followed by two consecutive fourth place finishes at Symphony Hall.
Although enjoying his legal career in Sydney, 4BR was informed that he was quick to respond to Leyland’s call for a return to the equally high profile pressures of the British Open.
No one better
Leyland’s Associate Musical Director John Doyle told 4BR: "It’s been a busy week since Philip and the band parted company, but we couldn’t think of anyone better qualified to lead us at the British Open."
John revealed that after a quick phone call the basic details were put in place. "It’s great to be able to team up with such an excellent musician once more. Jason’s musical reputation is second to none and his track record speaks for itself. Everyone at Leyland has been boosted by the news."

Intensive preparation
The conductor will fly to the UK two weeks before the contest for a period of intensive preparation – something John believes can only be good for the band.
"Being able to work with Jason for such a concentrated period is ideal. I will be preparing the band throughout July and August prior to Jason’s arrival, and then it will be a question of adding that extra touch of Katsikaris musical magic."
John also revealed that Leyland will shortly be announcing the appointment of their new Professional Musical Director.
