The recent Tameside contest in Dukinfield saw the end of a long Uppermill banding career.
Second cornet player Anne Dorman made the difficult decision to bow out to care for her husband, Gordon, himself a former member of the band.
Long career
Anne joined Newton Heath Band in 1947, and for over 36 years was it’s principal cornet player despite band name changes and contesting fortunes.
She later occupied the flugel horn seat and was with the band until it folded.
Her experience has helped many younger and less experienced players over the years, and she will be sorely missed by all at Uppermill. We wish Anne all the best for the futureUppermill Band
Helped out
Anne helped out Uppermill in 1999 for a contest, and has been with the band ever since on flugel horn and more recently on second cornet.
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Her experience has helped many younger and less experienced players over the years, and she will be sorely missed by all at Uppermill. We wish Anne all the best for the future."
