Black Dyke trombone star Brett Baker recently made a guest appearance in Switzerland, performing with Brass Band Winterthur.
Brett was the guest soloist at the band’s annual Gala Concert in the Stadhaussaal in Winterthur.
Turnaround
Winterthur has made a dramatic turnaround over the last twelve years. Facing extinction, the introduction of a new chairman led to the birth of a new brass band that now comprises 35 active members.
This non-contesting band has continued its success over the last five years under the direction of dynamic conductor, Thomas Mosimann.
Top class
Following on from previous successful visits from Richard Marshall and David Thornton, Brett wowed the audience with items such as, ‘Blue Bells of Scotland’, ‘Smile’, Arthur Pryor’s ‘Fantastic Polka’ and ‘Close to You’. The audience demanded more and Brett gave them the encore ‘Annie Laurie’.
