The Beaumaris Band recently enjoyed a successful day at the recent North Wales Brass Band Association Solo, Duet & Quartet Championship held at the Galeri in Caernarfon.
Before London qualification
Just before the band headed to Swansea where they produced a stunning performance to qualify for the National Finals in London, a host of their young players showed off their talents – led by 13-year-old Pippa Scourse who gained first place in both Slow Melody and Air-Varie categories.
Celeb!
Pippa has become quite a celebrity in North Wales where her talents are often heard in concerts and competitions throughout the area. Her remarkable dedication and hard work have been nurtured by MD Gwyn Evans and has resulted in gaining a seat within the senior Beaumaris Band.
Superb performance
Another noteworthy winner was 17-year-old Bronwen Evans, who won the Slow melody 16-18 category. In a tightly fought contest Bronwen produced a superb performance described by adjudicator Keith Jones as, ‘…a moment that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up’.

Thanks
The Air-Varie 16-18 contest was won by Elin Jones, principal euphonium of the youth band, and another recent recruit to the senior band, whilst Elin and Bronwen combined to win the under 18 duet competition.
Gavin Saynor told 4BR: "Beaumaris entered competitors in all sections, and a special thanks has to go to Fred Evans who led the fantastic team of tutors within the band who helped to prepare the youngsters for the big day."
