Reg Vardy tribute
Further tributes have been published by many bands, included Reg Vardy, whom Major Parkes enjoyed numerous contesting successes
They stated: "It is with great sadness that the Reg Vardy Band place on record their sadness at the death of the great and well respected legend, Major Peter Parkes.
The Major's association with the band spanned some 20 years with successes too numerous to mention, although two stand out.
The Area performance of ‘Contest Music’ in 1985 was a cracking, where his reading of the taxing second movement was absolutely brilliant and ‘Seascapes’ at the Albert Hall in 1988. This was one of the few times he was able to take us to the Finals.
It was a pleasure and a privilege for the band to have had the chance to work with such a wonderful musician but also a true gent.
Our sympathies go to his family at this sad time."
Mark of respect
As a mark of respect the band will hold a minute silence at the band's centenary dinner at the Ramside Hall Hotel on Saturday 26th February.
