'A Moorside Suite' by Gustav Holst was the most popular choice in the British Bandsman/4BR poll to establish the work most likely to make an impact on the Classic FM Hall of Fame.
Following lead
The magazine followed 4BR’s lead to highlight the need for more brass band works to be featured in the annual countdown of the radio station’s listeners’ most popular works, and Holst’s 1928 National test piece gained 25% of the votes cast.
’Cloudcatcher Fells’ by John McCabe took second place, with ‘Pageantry’ by Herbert Howells in third.
Get voting!
Both 4BR and British Bandsman would like to encourage readers to vote for these three master works in that order on the Classic FM website in the hope that some of our greatest ever compositions can make an impact on the popular annual poll.
Voting closes on Friday 11 February.
