Coalburn

Over 60 band members and their families recently enjoyed Coalburn Band’s annual awards night. Special guest for the evening was the Provost of South Lanarkshire, Russell Clearie.

Awards

The ‘Best Section’ award chosen by MD Gareth Bowman, went to the basses of Ann Black, Andy Dorricott, Michael Cowan and Alan Court, whilst the ‘Most Improved Player’ prize in the organisation’s Bronze Band was won by Liam Riley.

Kirsty Mathieson picked up the equivalent senior award, and Band Secretary Daniel Beadle won the ‘Band Person of the Year’.

Ability

The new ‘Conductors Award’, was presented to the band’s talented bass trombone player Kyle MacCorquodale, whilst the sought after ‘Player of the Year’ title was won by principal corner player Joel Harding.

Gareth Bowman told 4BR: "His ability to encourage and assist younger members made him an obvious choice."

First Section debut

Coalburn is the last remaining brass band in South Lanarkshire, but has a highly encouraging future ahead with performances to come at the Scottish Championships at Perth where the band will compete in the First Section for the first time in their history

The band will also be playing a major part in the World Community Arts Day later this month.
