15 year old Jonathan Bates has been appointed the new first horn at Black Dyke.

Black Dyke has announced the appointment of Jonathan Bates as their new first horn player with immediate effect, following the departure of Julie Meechan.

The MD added: "Jonathan is an exciting prospect, a finalist in last year's BBC Radio 2's Young Brass Soloist competition and the current principal horn of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain."

Meanwhile, 15 year old Jonathan thanked his previous band, Brighouse & Rastrick, for all their help, adding: "Winning the Nationals was truly awesome. However, I am really looking forward to joining Black Dyke."
