Gary Davies, MD of Tylorstown and Llwydcoed Bands has been awarded the prestigious Eric James Memorial Trophy as Welsh Conductor of the Year.
Respected
The award was was instituted in 1992 following the death of one of the most respected musicians in the Welsh banding movement, and reflects his commitment to grass roots banding and the contribution made by its hard working conductors.
Outstanding
Eric’s son, Alyn told 4BR: "A small committee meets each year to discuss the achievements of Welsh conductors throughout all the sections and choose a recipient for the award.
This year, in choosing Gary, we recognised his outstanding achievement in steering Tylorstown to the Second Section National title at Harrogate as well as his continued excellent work and success with Llwydcoed Band – including gaining fourth place on the same contesting weekend in the Third Section."
