Bodmin Town Band has announced the appointment of Garry Lannie as their new Musical Director.
Sought after
After many years of championship playing at the highest level, Garry took up the baton in 2005 and has become one of the most sought after conducting talents in Cornish banding.
Most recently he has been Resident Conductor St Dennis Band, whom he led to the runner up placing at Pontins, whilst he has enjoyed success with St Breward, Launceston, St Pinnock, St Austell, Liskeard and Mount Charles Youth. He is also a tutor of the Cornwall Youth Band.
...when people see that the likes of Garry have put their trust in the direction we are heading then we see nothing but positives for 2011Chairman, Ryun Retallack
Coup
Band Chairman Ryun Retallack told 4BR: "We feel we’ve pulled off something of a conducting coup. Everyone will remember the tragic fire that ripped through the band’s historic bandroom 12 months ago, but, ironically it has brought about new support and interest, and the rebuilding process has been steady over recent months.
Garry played for Bodmin in the heydays of the late 90’s, and we’re delighted that he’s joined us from St Dennis to hopefully take this proud band back where it belongs."
Positives
Ryun concluded: "Player numbers are steadily increasing and when people see that the likes of Garry have put their trust in the direction we are heading then we see nothing but positives for 2011."
