Bury Parish Church is becoming the place to see and hear brass bands it seems — thanks to the entrepreneurial expertise of Dr Roy Newsome.

All kinds of music

The small church has already seen Dr Roy help promote concerts by Wingates, Black Dyke, Fairey (Geneva), St. Austell and Salford University Brass, and whilst most have appeared in evening concerts, Salford University have taken part twice in the Church’s Friday lunchtime series, which takes in all kinds of music.

Enjoying it

Dr Roy told 4BR: "We are really enjoying the series we are putting on and it has shown that there is a real appetite for high quality brass band concerts."

The series has included recitals by Philip McCann, Peter Moore as well as brass groups from Chethams School of Music and Salford. The University’s latest appearance was last Friday.

Negotiations are already in hand for 2011.
