The Fairey (Geneva) Band has moved quickly to fill the hole caused by the departure of solo euphonium player Gary Curtin to rivals Black Dyke.
Immediate appointment
The English National champion has announced the immediate appointment of Matthew White as his replacement.
A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Gary leaves with our best wishes after a very successful 12 month period, but we are delighted to sign Matthew who is regarded as one of the finest young euphonium talents in the banding world."

Banding career
The BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Musician of the Year started his banding career at Michelmarsh Silver before following his move to Manchester to study at Cheetham’s School he played with Wingates, Leyland and more recently with Desford Colliery.
The spokesperson added: “Matthew’s first outing in the blue and gold will be at 'Brass in Concert in Gateshead. We wish him a long and happy association with the Fairey (Geneva) Band.”
