Mortimer motor up for sale

Harry Mortimer's old Riley car is up for sale — and his autograph is still in the logbook too...

Mortimer

A very odd piece of Harry Mortimer banding memorabilia has been found up for sale on ebay by 4BR – his old car.

Valentines Day

The 1.5 litre Riley RMA was registered on St Valentines Day 1947 and is believed to by a rare example of a pre production model with round dials and a petrol gauge that doesn’t work!

Speculation

The current owner has the original brown cardboard logbook which bears the great conductor’s signature – although the seller’s speculation that the car was bought for Harry Mortimer’s mistress is perhaps a little less certain, although his description of him as ‘the very famous trumpeter, bandleader and recording artists’ is a little closer to the mark.

Restored

The car was used until the 1960’s but was laid up until 1996 when it was restored and put back on the road.

Offers currently stand at £3,000 – so get your bids in if you want to drive around in Harry’s old Riley…
