One of Waterford city’s great musical institutions is to celebrate the golden jubilee of one of its most prominent members, Michael Quinlan, by holding a special concert at the local cathedral on the weekend.

City of Waterford Brass, is now 78 years old and going from strength to strength, whilst Michael has been a proud member of the band since 1960.

And to help Michael celebrate his fine achievement his band will be joined by players drawn from across Ireland and abroad to form a massed brass band of, appropriately enough, 50 performers.
"We are delighted to celebrate this fine achievement by means of a musical evening which is sure to raise more than a few hairs an the back of your neck," promised band President John Mernin, when he spoke to 4BR.
