Brian Grant replaces James Gourlay as Resident MD at Grimethorpe.

Despite not taking part at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall on the weekend, Grimethorpe Colliery Band hasn't been sitting back enjoying their own anthem performances at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi — with news that they have appointed Brian Grant as their new resident Musical Director.

Immediate effect

Band Manager Terry Webster told 4BR: "We have appointed Brian with immediate effect. He will take over the resident Musical Director role from James Gourlay, who we thank for his excellent contribution. Everyone at Grimethorpe is looking forward to working with Brian as he his experience and talent will surely benefit the band."

Brass in Concert

4BR understands that Brian has already been taking a number of rehearsals and will work with professional Musical Director Allan Withington for the band’s forthcoming performance at Brass in Concert.
He will also continue to conduct Hepworth (Cookson Homes) Band.
