Poulton le Flyde has the 'Common' touch as they lead the way at Fleetwood.

Poulton le Flyde

There was a good turn out of bands at the 11th Annual NWCBBA contest in Fleetwood last weekend, where Poulton le Flyde conducted by Gary Westwood enforced its top section credentials by taking the £400 first prize in the Championship Section.

Victory

Their performance of ‘Music for the Common Man’ by Kenneth Downie gave them a narrow single point victory over Oldham (Lees) directed by John Collins, with Morecambe led by Andrew Warriner in third.

The band also picked up the individual awards for basses and percussion, whilst the euphonium honours went to Oldham (Lees)

Besses

In the Second Section victory went to a rejuvenated Besses o’ th’ Barn directed by James Holt, who also performed a Kenneth Downie work with his ‘Three Part Invention’ to claim the £400 top prize ahead of Eccleston and Flixton.

In form

The Third Section laurels were taken by the in form Eccles Borough conducted by Marieka Gray as their performance of ‘Variations on a Chord’ by Jan de Haan gave them victory over Trinity Girls in second and third placed Darwen Brass.

Parr St Helen’s took the Fourth Section title, whilst Fred Longworth High School directed by Helen Robinson claimed the youth honours.
