Although he won’t be conducting at the British Open this year, there is great news for the numerous fans of one of the contest’s finest (as well as most successful) conductors.

Dr Roy Newsome will be returning to support the event following his recent spell in hospital – and is looking forward to enjoying the atmosphere as well as meeting up with plenty of old friends at Symphony Hall.

"I just want to say a quick thank you to everyone who took the time to contact Muriel and myself over the last couple of months following my 80th birthday. It was wonderful to receive such kind messages from all over the banding world."
