Every two years for the past decade, Clifton & Lightcliffe Senior Band has organised a tour abroad.
Los Angeles
And later this month, a 64 strong part of players, families and supporters will be travelling to California to visit and perform with the Golden State Brass Band based in Los Angeles.
Adventurous
MD, John Clay told 4BR: "This is by far the most adventurous trip we have organised and everyone is really excited about it. It has been made possible by our relationship with the Golden State British Brass Band based in Los Angeles run by Linda and Norm Taylor."
That relationship has flourished in recent years as Linda and Norm visit Yorkshire and spend the summer at music schools held at Swansea and Framlingham. Through Stephen Ford, an ex member of Clifton they came and sat in at the band’s rehearsals and the friendship grew.
Since then the band has been busy fund-raising to help offset some of the costs, and has managed to raise a staggering £25,0004BR
Concerts
John added: "For a number of years they have asked if we would be interested in visiting them and performing concerts with Golden State Band and the Pomona Concert Band which Linda conducts. After returning from our band trip to Lake Garda in 2008 the idea was put to the members and now that trip is taking place."
Since then the band has been busy fund-raising to help offset some of the costs, and has managed to raise a staggering £25,000.
Trip to remember
The trip will be one to remember, as the band will be based at Long Beach overlooking the great Queen Mary liner that is docked there.
The band will perform three concerts at Disneyland, Ganesha Park with the Pomona Concert Band and at the Richard Nixon Memorial Hall with the Golden State British Brass Band, as well as having plenty of time on their hands to enjoy the sightseeing at Universal Studios, Hollywood, Sea World, Venice Beach and Santa Monica.
