4BR has been informed of the death of former CWS (Manchester) cornet player Brian Cronshaw, who died peacefully on 3rd August.
During the 1960s Brian was assistant principal cornet to Derek Garside at CWS (Manchester) Band.
Open win
A former player with the Fairey Band, he later joined CWS (Manchester) under the baton of Alex Mortimer. He played with the band when they won the British Open Championship at Belle Vue in 1966.
Enjoyed playing
In 1971 he was invited to join the British Vita Band as principal cornet, under the baton of Jack Harrison.
Brian still enjoyed his playing right up until he became too ill, as one of the front row cornet players at the Whitworth Veterans Band — a band where shared his love of playing with many of his old friends.

Funeral
The funeral will be at 11.30am, Thursday 12th August at All Saints Church, Foxholes Road, off Halifax Road, Rochdale OL14 0EF.
Committal is at Rochdale Crematorium at 1pm. Family flowers only, with donations if so desired to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
