4BR has been informed of the death of the former editor of British Bandsman newspaper, Peter Wilson, aged 74, who died on Friday 6th August after a short illness.
Leading figure
A leading figure in Scottish banding, he was a respected player and conductor with a flair for administration, becoming organising secretary of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain on the retirement of Vaughan Morris in 1971, a post he left in 1977.
He retired as editor of British Bandsman in 2000, remaining as a highly respected consultant and maintaining the newspaper’s radio column4BR
Editor
In 1977 he became editor of British Bandsman at a time of great difficulty for the newspaper, and did much through his skill and diplomacy to safeguard its future, as well as that of the National Championships during the destructive tenure of its proprietor Robert D. Alexander.
He retired as editor of British Bandsman in 2000, remaining as a highly respected consultant and maintaining the newspaper’s radio column.
Funeral arrangements
The funeral will be held at St Andrews Church, Chorleywood, Herts at 11.00am on the 24th August.
The family has requested that no black clothes be worn and flowers should come from the family only.
