Dewi Griffiths and Paul Hughes have been the two best known brass band players in Welsh speaking world over the last few days – even if they are playing trumpets…
Eyes and ears
With the main cultural events of the National Eisteddfod of Wales in the media spotlight this week, such as the crowning of the Eisteddfod Bard and the award of the prestigious Chair, all eyes and ears have be tuned in to the great spectacles in the main pavilion.

Druidic apparel
Leading the way in fine druidic apparel have been Dewi and Paul – great friends and proud Welshmen, who took over the trumpet duties a couple of years ago, and who must perform the fanfare calls at the each of the main events throughout the week.
"It’s a real honour for us both," Dewi told 4BR. "It means we are both putting something back into an event which means a great deal for two proud Welshmen."
Busy
It’s been a busy few days for the players too, as both conducted bands at the Eisteddfod contest on the Saturday, with Dewi winning with his M2 Band in the Fourth Section and Paul leading his young Llanrug Band in the Second Section – before they teamed up to help Tredegar win the Championship Section contest on the Sunday.
Critic
Dewi also played his part as a brass band critic too — taking the television sofa role to pass on his opinions to the viewers on the bands competing in the lower sections on the Saturday.
"They get their money’s worth out of us," Dewi joked, "...but it’s so enjoyable we don’t mind."
