Once upon a time in the West for Brunel

John Winterflood and Brunel Brass hope to make a mark in the West and beyond, with their debut CD release...

Brunel

The current Third Section National Champion of Great Britain, Brunel Brass, has just put the finishing touches to their debut CD release, which they hope will give their many supporters the opportunity to relive some of the contesting highlights of their meteoric rise to National title winning ways.

Live recordings

The release will feature live recordings of their performances from the regional contests where they first came to prominence by winning the Fourth and Third Section West of England titles, as well as their Fourth Section National Finals debut performance where they came 4th at Harrogate in 2008.

Pride of place

Also taking pride of place is the recording of their Third Section National title winning performance of ‘Oceans’ – which saw the band leave Harrogate in 2009 as the Champion Band of Great Britain.

As we now strive for more challenging levels of musical excellence in the Second and hopefully First Sections, we know that this is a very special time for the bandJohn Winterflood

Significance

MD, John Winterflood told 4BR: "As Musical Director it has been of great personal significance to me as most of the young players have been members of Great Western Youth Band and students of mine.

"As we now strive for more challenging levels of musical excellence in the Second and hopefully First Sections, we know that this is a very special time for the band."

Morricone

John added: "The few older members of the band guide the youngsters and are positive role models and it proves to be a great partnership and combination.

"None more so than Paul Richards the band's soprano cornet player and it is fitting that the piece that features Paul is the title for the CD – Ennio Morricone’s main theme from the film, ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’."
