The National Youth Band of Wales has presented its annual awards following the completion of its 2010 course and concerts in Aberystwyth and Swansea this week.

Celebration

The presentations were made by Professor Edward Gregson who directed this year’s course in what was a double celebration for him on the advent of his 65th birthday.

Soprano player Morgan James was presented with the award on completion of ten years of service to the band, and follows in the footsteps of his elder brother David4BR

Tutors Award

The Tutor’s Award was won by tenor horn player Emma Havard from Monmouthshire, whilst the Ken Lloyd Award for the percussionist showing most progress, was won by Paul Stoneman from Newport.

The John Childs Award for 'Most Improved Brass Player' went to Jack Lapthorn of Newport, whilst the prestigious Friend’s Award was presented for only the second time in the band’s history – although for the second time it went to a member of the same family.

10 years service

Soprano player Morgan James was presented with the award on completion of ten years of service to the band, and follows in the footsteps of his elder brother David.
