Reg Vardy bass trombone player Gareth Sykes, recently took the first in a serious of Trombone Workshops as part of Lofthouse 2000 Band's ‘On The Slide’ education programme.

Exercises

A number of players were taken through various exercises and a trombone feature that they performed with the full band later in the morning.

Leeds City Councillor Cllr Karen Renshaw, who was instrumental in securing the funding required for the trombones and the workshops, joined the group.

No nerves

One of the participants told 4BR: "It was good. The nerves didn’t get the better of me either, despite never having done anything like this before."

Further workshops are planned with Gareth during the year, including a number that will be open to other trombone players.
