The Brass in Ripon Contest was held at Ripon Cathedral at the end of May, and although might have been a bit miserable the atmosphere inside Ripon Cathedral certainly was not.

10 bands, all with their own ideas on `entertainment' playeda 20 minute programme for adjudicators Richard Evans and Mark Sidwell, which had to include a march, hymn and solo item.
After an inspired performance, North Skelton, conducted by Rob Illsley, emerged as winners of the Ripon Festival Championship Rosebowl and £250 closely followed by the defending champions Ripon City with Clifton & Lightcliffe in third.

Described by Richard Evans as, 'a class act', Ripon's principal cornet Mike Lumsdon deservedly took the 'Best Soloist' prize with his performance of 'The Paragon'.
Marske Brass won the 'Best March' prize for their rendition of `Marching Onward' and North Skelton took the best hymn prize with their beautiful playing of 'Gresford'.
Trimdon Concert were awarded the prize for best 4th Section or Unregistered band.
