Smithills duo success

Smithills celebrate double success as both their brass and concert bands make it through to the National Festival of Music For Youth.

Both the Smithills School Senior Brass Band and Senior Concert Bands, conducted by Chris Wormald since forming twenty years ago, have once again qualified for the National Festival Music For Youth to be held in Symphony Hall, Birmingham in July.

17th year

For the seventeenth consecutive year the Senior Brass Band has qualified for the prestigious Festival.

During that time they have won ten 'Outstanding Performance' Awards, and four 'Highly Commended' Awards, and last July was presented with the new 'Peters Edition Sponsors Award'.

Every year

Meanwhile, Smithills Senior Concert Band first entered and won Music For Youth in 1997 and has qualified for the Festival every year since.

In 2008 it was awarded the last ever 'Outstanding Performance' Award to be presented to school wind bands.
