4BR has been informed of the death of Kirkby Colliery Welfare Band's Bb bass player, Roger Holmes.

Brilliant bandsman

Roger had been ill for a time but had been attending rehearsals, contests and concerts up to last week. His health deteriorated rapidly and he died on Monday 3rd May.

A spokesperson for the band told 4BR: "He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a brilliant bandsman and every one loved and respected him. Our deepest condolences go out to all his family."

Funeral arrangements

The funeral of Roger will be held on Tuesday 11th May at 11.30am at St. Albans Church, Forest Town, Mansfield followed by cremation at the crematorium Mansfield at 12.15pm.
