Doors close on Timperley

The Timperley Band will blow its last note tomorrow as it takes the painful decision to win up its affairs and close its doors.

Timperely

The Timperley Band has informed 4BR that at a meeting on 14th April, a decision was reached that there was no alternative other than to wind up the band after honouring a final engagement on Friday 23rd April.

Cannot carry on

Gary Winson, Band Chairman told 4BR: "Due to various circumstances the band lost a group of players, but the remaining members were determined to stick it out in an effort to rebuild the band. However, the band cannot now carry on and this decision has had to be made."

Gary added that the band had been significantly affected by the lack of available players to maintain playing standards, whilst others had found it difficult to maintain a balance between top level banding and home life.

There is still a great deal of goodwill and kindness in the movement and long may that continue for the bands which remain in these challenging timesChairman, Gary Winson

Success

Between 2006 and 2008 the band established itself firmly in the North West Championship Section and enjoyed increasing success.

Gary believes that if the banding climate was different, with Timperley’s support structure, they would have been firmly established as a Championship Section standard band for many years — but it was not possible.

Thanks

Gary added: "I would like to thank all the conductors, players and other bands who have had an involvement with Timperley since it reformed in 2005. There is still a great deal of goodwill and kindness in the movement and long may that continue for the bands which remain in these challenging times."

Regarding the bands property, Gary explained that the bands constitution requires that available instruments and equipment are distributed to other registered charities."

Help

He sadly concluded: "We would like to hear from other bands in the North West who wish to register their interest to be considered potentially to receive Timperley property by emailing me at gary.xm603@sky.com quoting their charity registration number."
