Dewi's bridge work

Tredegar's principal cornet player returns to Menai Bridge Band to lend a helping hand.

The Menai Bridge Band recently held an all day workshop, where current members received tuition from some very close friends of the band.

Past members

The purpose of the workshop was to prepare the Senior Band for a concert being held in Bangor University later this month and it provided an opportunity for the Junior and Intermediate bands to work with some past members who now play successfully with other top bands in the UK.

Members of Dyffryn Nantlle Band and brass students from Bangor University also benefited from the day, with Dewi Griffiths, principal cornet of Tredegar, returning to his roots to work with the cornet section.

Menai Bridge would like to thank all the tutors for their efforts on the day and also the Welsh Music Federation for providing funding so the workshop could go aheadMenai Bridge Band

Tuba star

Alongside him was tuba star, Gavin Saynor, who put the basses through their paces, whilst the euphoniums and baritones received expert advice from Aled Williams.

Simon Cowell

Iwan Williams from Tredegar made the long trip back home to give the Trombone section the 'Simon Cowell treatment', whilst the final member of the 'Tred Trio', Chris Davies led the horn section through their preperations.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Menai Bridge would like to thank all the tutors for their efforts on the day and also the Welsh Music Federation for providing funding so the workshop could go ahead."
