Time for Brass:
Manx Radio: 97.2, 89 and 103.7 FM and 1368AM
The highlight of the past week has been the visit of Bactiguard Wire Brass to play a concert as guests of the Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band at Castle Rushen High School.
The guest soloist was Glyn Williams, principal euphonium of the Fodens band whose virtuosity, versatility and humour gave the concert an extra special dimension.
The visit coincided with one of the best weekends for weather since the start of the year and the band and Glyn had a perfect introduction to the Island which, of itself might lure them back to our shores.
Small ensembles are also greatly in evidence. Last week Ian Astill and friends, four young tubists from the Royal Northern College presented a much enjoyed concert in Castletown.
In the coming week Quintabile, five members of the Guildhall School of Music who include former Ramsey Town Band principal cornet, Sam Kinrade, will perform at The Centenary Hall in Peel on Thursday and Scoill Ree Gorree in Ramsey on Friday. Both concerts start at 7.30pm.
