Newtown Silver Band in Mid Wales celebrates it's 130th anniversary this year.
130 years of service
Formed in 1880 as the Newtown Brass and Reed Band, in 1897 it became the 5th Volunteer Battalian South Wales Borderers whose headquarters were in Newtown.
When they were disbanded in 1908 it became 7th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers before eventually taking the name of the town and becoming Newtown Silver. It is the longest established brass band in Mid Wales and one of the oldest organisations in the county of Powys.
The concert follows on from their participation in a local community 'howling' previously reported on 4BR when band members took a prominant part in the proceedings4BR
