Blackpool's Winter Gardens have been sold for £39 million.

It has been reported that the future of Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, the iconic venue for the North West Regional Championships and British Open Spring Festival has been secured.

Blackpool Council has announced that they have purchased Blackpool Tower and the Winter Gardens from entrepreneur Trevor Hemmings for £39 million, £10 million of which will be used to refurbish the ageing Tower.

Super Casino

Following the shelving of the ‘Super Casino’ plans by the government, Blackpool’s hopes of becoming the ’Las Vegas of the North West’ had stalled, but it is now hoped that the necessary investment can now be put in place to upgrade and refurbish the Winter Garden and Tower complex.

Area contests

It was announced at the North West Regional Championships that the venue would host the 2011 Regional event on Sunday 27th February, with it remaining on the last Sunday of the month until 2014.
