A lot of interesting concerts in the Island's brass band circles just at present.
Last Thursday Ian Astill and Friends, four tuba players from the Royal Northern College, gave a very entertaining evening at the church of St. Mary's on the Harbour in Castletown.
Until he went away to college Ian played euphonium with the Castletown Band and had been a pupil of the late Major "Tommy" Thirtle. On Saturday 10th April Bactiguard Wire Brass will be appearing at Castle Rushen High School, having spent that morning providing workshops for members of Isle of Man bands.
At the concert they will be joined by guest soloist, Glyn Williams of the Fodens Band. A great night's music is assured.
Then on April 15th and 16th at the Centenary Hall in Peel and the Scoill Ree Gorree in Ramsey there will be a concert by Quintabile, five young brass players from the Guildhall School of Music. Among them will be Sam Kinrade, formerly principal cornet with Ramsey Town Band. Clearly the Island is no musical backwater.
