Leyland Band has announced that it is entering into a formal Partnership Agreement with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN), the UK’s fourth largest University, based in Preston.
Setting
The setting for the announcement was a concert in the University’s Mitchell & Kenyon cinema. The host for the evening was Brian R Harris, the Chairman of the Trustees, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Board and the proceeds, which amounted to nearly £3,000, went to the Harris Bursary Fund which is a Charity set up to support disadvantaged students.
Academic
Leyland conducted by Richard Evans, was given a standing ovation and appropriately included in its programme Brahms 'Academic Festival Overture'.
Brian Harris told the audience: "This concert will be the first of many associations with the Leyland Band since the University, as a commitment to the local community, is pleased to be forging a formal partnership with them."

Degrees of success
In addition to this initial concert, Leyland will hold a series of community workshops and recording sessions at the University and in July, members of the band will perform at the Preston Guildhall for the University’s Degree and Award ceremonies.
Allan Littlemore, Leyland Band chairman, expressed his appreciation of the way the University’s Directors and Staff had welcomed the Leyland Band into it’s fold: "These are exciting times at Leyland Band. We are all looking forward to the development of this partnership."
