Junior Prize for Speirs

Young Renfrew cornet player Gary Speirs has won the prestigious RSAMD Junior Academy Brass Prize.

Renfrew Burgh Band cornet player Gary Speirs has won the 2010 Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Junior Academy Brass Prize.

Successful

As well as studying trumpet at the Academy on Saturday mornings, Gary is principal trumpet with the highly successful Inverclyde Schools Concert Band.

Awards

The Concert Band are competing in the finals of the Scottish Concert Band Festival in March and the National Concert Band Festival in Birmingham following platinum and gold plus awards at an earlier stage.

Gary attends Notre Dame High School in Greenock and, as well as his trumpet and cornet playing, still finds time to participate in his school show. Gary is also a member of the Inverclyde Schools Senior Choir.
