Fodens recently held their annual 'Patrons Concert' to a capacity audience at Sandbach Boys School, where over 500 people were treated to a varied programme directed by Associate Conductor Mike Fowles and solo contributions by Mark Wilkinson, Helen Williams, Glyn Williams and Les Neish.
Battle plan
The concert also gave the Masters and Brass in Concert champion the chance to perform the recently commissioned 'Battle of Barossa' from composer in residence Andy Scott.
Andy was at hand to introduce his piece as well as introduce narrator Ivor Stephenson, who travelled from Ireland especially for the concert. The band had a special surprise for their Irish friend in the form of a presentation of an honorary vice presidency.

Dedication
Jimmy Charles, the former baritone player and current librarian of the band, and who has been associated with Fodens for nearly 50 years, was presented with a framed copy of 'Patrons' Choice III', which included a dedication to his late wife, Louise.
Louise helped the band throughout her life, something which Jimmy continues to do. Jimmy showed his gratitude calling the band his 'family' — sentiments echoed by the band when they dedicated the hymn-like tune, 'Reverend Archie Beaton' to her memory.
Awards
The Patrons concert also gave members of Fodens the chance to vote for their annual awards.
This year the 'Player of the Year' award went to principal cornet Mark Wilkinson, whilst baritone player, Natsumi Inaba, was the recipient of the 'Bandsperson of the Year' award.
Following a series of awards for youth patrons, there were thanks given to the band's President, Vice Presidents, Patrons and the bands various 'Partners' for the continued support. The concert ended with a rousing performance of Philip Sparke's 'Music of the Spheres'.
